VANESSA ANDERSON
For over 20 years Vanessa has designed education projects in Worcestershire serving both the local authority and independent academy trusts. As a lead architect she engaged in all aspects of the project cycle from feasibility, concept design and contract management, to construction administration.
Having undertaken Passivhaus Designer, training, Vanessa champions sustainable design with a focus on lower running costs, user comfort and simple ways to refurbish existing buildings to harness natural light and warmth. She believes every project can be improved through the application of simple methods such as orientating toward the sun and inserting window to capture light throughout the day. Her immense knowledge of construction drives this effort and she takes time to familiarise herself with new methods and materials in an ever evolving industry.
With a keen interest in new technology, Vanessa sparks Herlig to explore new and innovative ways of working. This includes the incorporating 3D modelling of all our designs and the use of Virtual Reality to convey our ideas to the Client. This means all stakeholders become decision makers ensuring an understanding of the scheme, whether you can read a floor plan or not. These 3D representations help minimise project risk since ‘what you see, is what you get’.
Vanessa’s work is identified by an attention to detail. Her tenacious interest in how things are assembled makes for a well documented project and ultimately a smooth route through construction. Her designs are thoughtful, sensible and delightful. She introduces solutions and building materials that instil a unique and integral statement.
EMILY KIPPEN
Emily was inspired to become an architect at an early age when her parents planned and built their family home. She went on to undertake work experience with their architect, which inspired her to pursue the profession and has resulted in her working in the north and south of England in different sectors and size of practices.
Clients appreciate Emily’s understanding of their needs, whether that be a homeowner, a church committee, hospice staff and volunteers, or an investor, then converting their aspirations into reality. She is known for her methodical approach, ‘thinking outside the box’ and excellent communication skills.
Good design can affect people’s well-being in a positive way and her work with hospices exemplified this. Her workshops with staff and volunteers resulted in bespoke solutions always with the patients in mind.
Emily had the honour to work on a flagship project for the city of Worcester. As Project Architect for the RIBA Award-winning transformation of the former Royal Porcelain Works into a cultural destination, she brought together musical and theatre performers, restaurant operators and investors to create a building that is functional and iconic.
Emily has a ‘give back’ attitude and generously shares her knowledge by volunteering and speaking at local schools and universities. As Chair of the Worcestershire Society of Chartered Architects she was instrumental in establishing the Worcestershire Architecture Awards to recognise and promote the value architects bring to a project and to raise public awareness of a positive built environment.

Services
We work at every stage of a project from the initial concept through to the construction. Our wide variety of services includes feasibility studies, architectural design, preparation of construction tender documents and project site management.
We take the risk and guess work out of envisaging our designs through the use of 3D Virtual Reality technology. Using VR goggles, clients can see their buildings inside and out before construction begins, thereby reducing risk, meeting expectations and providing all decisions makers with the ability to be part of the process.
Sometimes all a client needs is a quick Feasibility Study. We can help develop the brief, work with other professionals to obtain costs and offer clients a strategy for the project.
Architects add value and in this role we will apply our impartial and creative thinking to projects large and small. We will add functionality, maximise comfort and light and achieve the best return on our client’s investment.
Working with the client’s team or with our trusted contacts from a range of industries we can work at any stage of a project for as long as needed. We understand projects are not always linear and we can stop and start as needed to suit the situation.
We are highly skilled and professionally trained to turn your aims and aspirations into reality. We will guide you through the design, planning and building process whether you are constructing a new project or adapting an existing one.
